Riding The Waves

Scott,Tom & I took Skylar to the beach so I could teach her to boogie board. It's all that she has talked about for the last few days. I wasn't feeling great this morning but didn't have the heart to tell her - sometimes you just have to push yourself. I don't know if it as the salt air but I actually felt better once I got to the beach. Skylar was a natural. I took her out and rode the waves back in with her a few times. She then was teaching a little boy that she met while at the beach. It was really cute because she was actually showing off.

Broke Back

Scott fell in the garage a couple months ago. He has been complaining about his back hurting since he fell. Doctor Dalana "I'm not" thought it was because his arm was in the sling and it need to be exercised. Scott and I got into the pool where I worked his arm. The next day he said it hurt worse. He said it even hurt when he took in a breath. A cat scan was ordered and the results were a bone was broke near the scapula. I felt horrible - who would have thought. Doctors orders were to cool it for awhile.

June Birthdays

June is the month that is full of Birthdays for us. Friday was Matt's birthday and we celebrated at Texas roadhouse with dinner and Margaritas. As a joke I brought Matt a huge sponge bob balloon and thought he could give it to a little kid when we left. There was a little girl behind us that we passed the balloon off to but it scared her to tears. We took the balloon back and handed it off to a little girl outside the restaurant that was happy to receive it. Matt real gifts were boxing gloves, a boxing game and a soccer game for his Wii.

Saturday was Dr. Cwikla's birthday and he wanted to see the strangers and have dinner at Pano Vino. So Michelle and I had contacted Oaks advertising to put a birthday advertisement for Dr. Cwikla along with his picture on the big screen. We made movie bags that contained Dr. Joe's fountain of youth water, boxes of m&m's, whoppers, Junior mints, sugar babies, homemade cinnamon glazed almonds (they were a big hit) and hand sanitizer. Everyone arrived at the movies early. We watched all the previews run, the movie began with no Birthday message. Michelle went to talk to the manager on duty and he knew nothing about it. He phoned the advertising manager who told him where the advertisement was but it was to late : ( Michelle and I were really bummed about it. But, the mood picked up quickly when we went to Pano Vino's for dinner. Dr. Cwikla received a slide converter to convert all his slides into pictures. We love that restaurant it is the est Italian food I have ever had. The bonus was we had gotten a cake from Ben & Jerry's it was excellent. All in all a very good weekend celebration. The next June birthday is my sister, Tina's which is the 17th and Scott's is the 19th.

New Idea

Blake and Nikki have decided to get married at sunrise. I thought it would be great to incorporate the aroma of coffee throughout the reception. I found a beautiful flower arrangement that was perfect. I thought we could place a newspaper at each place setting. Only the news be all about Nikki and Blake. I even have a lost and found. When Blake was 3 he lost his pooh bear. He drew a picture and we posted them place in Satellite Beach. I still have that picture. Both he and Nikki did sports when they were kids so I have a sport section. I found on line blank newspaper my only problem is how I am going to do my draft. Newspapers are so wide. Any suggestions?

Amnesia

I take Lunesta at night for sleeping. I can have full conversations with people and not remember the conversation or I remember bits and pieces like it was a dream. Blake called me last night after I took the medication and said something about eloping in 2 months. Now I don't know the whole story but I so know they were planning to marry in December. So has it been moved up? They had decided on a pink and brown wedding.
So I have been searching and racking my brain for centerpieces etc. Because the wedding was going to be chocolate and pink I thought they could go with a Love is Sweet theme. Michelle and I thought of mini smores makers as a centerpiece with a glass container of marshmallows and chinese take out containers at each place setting containing graham crackers and chocolate bars. Then I thought of clear hurricaines filled with coffee beans and a pink candle in the center with pink and brown striped or polka dot ribbon and each table with a sweet treat name.
I really have to be creative because of the colors. So I am up for suggestions?

Another Advantage Of Living On The Space Coast

Skylar saw her first shuttle launch. We watched it launch on TV than we went outside. She was fascinated we went inside to see the TV and back outside. When the shuttle got out of eye sight , she said she wanted it to come back. I was so glad she was able to see the shuttle with Pappy and I and that she was able to appreciate it. Skylar continues to give Scott and I great memories.

Exhausting Weekend

I picked up Skylar Saturday the plan was to do some shopping and return home to swim. Friday I had bought Reese's Pieces for our 5th attempt to watch E.T. At 8:00 I had opened everyone candy and we turned on the movie. We again made it about 15 - 20 min. into the movie before Skylar fell asleep.
Skylar sleeps like road kill and her legs draped over you, cover thrown off. I had a small piece of the bed and froze. So I was feeling alittle sleep deprived when Skylar woke up 6:30 am Sunday morning - with a good morning mom. She took Milo out our bedroom doors and came in with a bouquet of plumeria's. Milo jumped up and grab her flowers and she was really mad that he had ruined her spring. Skylar and I then headed to Dunkin Donuts for iced lattes. This time Skylar didn't want to share she wanted her own so I ordered her a small cool latta. She put on her bathing suit and wanted to get into the pool at 7:30. Tom and Brandi came over - Tom grilled steaks, boiled crab legs and made twice baked potato. Skylar looked like a raisin when she left. She had stayed in the pool for 10 hours.
We heard from Blake, he said they were getting some pretty nasty weather there. He and Nikki are getting pretty serious , he has decided to change his career choice. Explosive Ordinance Disposal is starting to look dangerous. I can respect his decision. I'm glad it didn't take losing a limb to make him rethink.

Blake On Primetime

I had gotten Blake a computer with a web cam for his birthday. More for the fact that he could keep in touch and I would be able to see him. He left Ft. Jackson yesterday and called me to see if I would like to download yahoo to chat with him. Like I was going to pass up that chance. I downloaded yahoo and there he was. The web cam was surprisingly clear and the picture didn't really jump around allot.
He has lost some weight but, other than that he looked great. It brought tears to my eyes to actually see him but, at the same time it made me smile.

ReConnected

Our Memorial holiday began with my mother arriving Thursday ( thank you - sweet husband) and then friends that I haven't seen in 20 + years arrived. My mother worked with Margo. I used to babysit for Margo and Gary when I was 15 . One of the kids, Shannon, who is in her 30's now brought her adorable little boy Triton.
Sunday we made Margaritas and Scott BBQ chicken and corn on the cob. It was yummy..Then Triton and I made everyone ice cream cones. Triton is such a great helper :)

When we woke up Memorial Day I made coffee and breakfast for everyone. Then I began on preparations for the cookout. I made potato salad, Banana pudding, sliced watermelon and Scott made his much demanded Scotty dogs (again thank you sweet husband) Now for the best part Michelle brought her commercial Margarita maker over and was nice enough to make lime and strawberry margaritas for the guest.

Although some of us ended up in the pool, not by choice (thanks Tom & Matt) it was allot of fun. Skylar and Triton joined in the fun they would tell me I needed to get out of the pool so they could see if my chin was bleeding, I would pull myself up on the side and then let them think they pushed me back in. They thought that was really funny but, after about 45 min. of pulling myself out of the pool I was exhausted. Our company left Scott and I put the food away and crashed. I did think about Blake and missed him being home with the rest if our family and friends. We hope we stay connected with our friends and I can't wait to meet the rest of all their children.

Baby, I'm Amazed

Blake is still at Fort Jackson waiting on his security clearance. He called last night, he had been thinking about his grandmother all day and wanted to know if anyone has been to see granddad. I told him I didn't know but if he wanted Scott and I would visit him. Blake responded with a quick yes. I was at work and called Scott to see if he wanted to call granddad and see if he wanted to meet him for coffee, without hesitation he said sure why not and called granddad - granddad wasn't available so Scott told him to call him when he was. Scott continues to amaze me - he has such a wonderful heart.

Top Secret

I heard from Blake last night. He is still at Fort Jackson waiting for his security clearance before he can head to Red Stone. He has been sitting at Fort Jackson for over a week now. It seems like the military does things so backwards. I would have thought they would have worked on his clearance before he left.

The Greatest Gift Of All...

Today is mine and Scott's 8 year anniversary. It has been the best years of my life. On our fifth Anniversary I had gotten our family and closest friends together(with Michelle's help) to renew our vows. I surprised Scott with a hot air ballon ride and when we landed and drove back to where our car was, in the field, Michelle had set up a beautiful picnic basket lunch. The picnic baskets were given as gifts from Scott and I. When I first approached my mother with the idea of renewing our vows, she asked ,why we were renewing our vows so soon. Without hesitation, I answered , what if I am not given another five years. I want Scott to know what he means to me. How much he has brought to my life. The above picture was taken by me. How fitting of a picture, it was our balloon that cast this shadow.
We never wonder what to get each other for our anniversary because we have been gifted the greatest gift of all "TIME"
Scott and I plan to order dinners 2 U tonight and to watch our wedding video. It's almost like a fairytale every little girl has been read or dreamed of growing up. I feel like I have met my prince charming and we have been lucky to continue our story.. Happy Anniversary baby..
All my love forever -

Mother's Day

My mother's day was quite. Blake had prearranged my Mother's day before he left. With his girlfriend Nikki's help I received a beautiful bouquet of fresh cut flowers. On Saturday I received another bouquet of flowers from Brandi, Tom & Skylar. Scott and I was also treated to lunch at Texas Roadhouse : )
Blake called me to wish me a Happy Mother's Day : ) His girlfriend, Nikki also called me ( she scored big points) Sunday Milo had an early play date with his friends Turner and Boston. Milo was worn out. Relax, the Oxygen channel and sleep ahhhh it was great. Then it was the Survivor finale. I normally take Milo for a walk before bed but, because he was exhausted from his play date I didn't think he would be able to walk our normal walk. Oh yeah I forgot to mention our air conditioning went out and it was really hot. So I had plugged up old fashion air conditioning (fans) for us. Reminded Scott and I of the hurricanes : (

My Son, My Hero

We celebrated Blake's leaving for AIT at Planet Hollywood. I had reserved for 16 people and had a them make a cake for him. He left Monday called last night and was on his way to Fort Jackson, then to Red Stone. I am having empty nest but, have alot to keep me busy.

Aaron and Scott left on Friday for turkey hunting. They arrived safely and decided to get some rest before their early morning trip up the mountain. Blake's girlfriend Nikki had driven down from Gainsville for our planned activity on Saturday. I had made reservations for Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique for Skylar and my sisters little girls. Trying to cram everything in one day I also made reservations for dinner at Planet Hollywood for Blake's send off.
I made little bags for the girls with a brush and comb. As we arrived at the boutique. Each girl was given a pamphlet with their name on it Ex: Princess Skylar they were to chose the hair style they wanted. Skylar went with the traditional princess, Kylee went punked diva and Reese went with extensions. They were than escorted to their dressing chair were the hair was done, the make - up and their nails. They were then told to close their eyes and make a wish and while their eyes were closed and they were making a wish a wand was dropping fairy dust . A sash was placed over them and they were spun around to the mirror to see their self for the first time. It was a magical moment.

Feeling Helpless

Blake's grandmother was brought home today. I made brownies and took up to the family. Brandi was sitting by her side holding her hand and crying. I walked in the living room where they had her bed facing the ocean. I leaned down and hugged her and told her what a beautiful view she had, I kissed her and told her I loved her and I would see her later. She was surrounded by family. Brandi said they reminisced & went through family albums.Blake walked in a few minutes later to tell us she was gone.
He went back up there to say his final good-bye, he leaned down and sung their song "You are my Sunshine" and kissed her on the forehead. Brandi also devastated headed back to say her final goodbye. I always want to protect my children ( even if they are adults ) I know they are hurting and there is nothing I can do. I am glad they had each other to hold and support during one of their most difficult times.

Coolest Mom

I think Blake needed a break and called and asked me to go shooting. With a little convincing I asked Scott to use his new handgun that has never been shot. Blake took our target to show off my shooting skills. He said I was the coolest mom ever - what other mom would skydive and go shooting with their kid. I think I scored big points.

You Have To Have Faith

Blake is facing losing the Grandmother that he has an unexplainable bond with. From the time he was a baby and still at 18 she has sung "You are my Sunshine" to him. Blake has spent the morning looking for Sunflowers to take his grandmother. He came to my work and all I could do is cry, knowing how much he is hurting. He pulled out a bible he had in his pocket and read me a passage, that gave him peace. Words can't express how proud of him I am.

PCF Rogers Reporting To Duty

Blake leaves for his AIT training May 6, he will be in Alabama for 9 months until he finishes his schooling. He may be able to return home after school for 20 days and then he will get his assignment. I was planning a big send off party but, there is not enough time. So I'll have to change it to a Welcome home party.

A Very Happy Un-Birthday to You

Skylar had in her head that her Birthday was today. So when my sister called me this morning Skylar asked for the phone. I handed her the phone and she walked off and into the backyard. After about 5-10 min. I decided to rescue my sister and ask for the phone back.
Skylar had told her not to tell me what they had talked about, it was a secret.
Skylar told Tina it was her birthday and she was to bring the cake. Skylar then wanted me to call different people so she could talk. She was having a birthday party, inviting people and telling them what to bring. Skylar didn't want me to know because I told her that her birthday wasn't until October so was ruining her party. She later told me we were expecting guest, for her party and she really expected them. Luckly she was awoken from her nap when her dad came to pick her up. I'm sure she will be calling me later.

Milo

Milo looks like he is smoking a cigar
If you don't open the door, he hits it with his
mouth if you still don't open the door he slaps
at the bell with his paw.

This is Milo's bell. When he has to potty or
wants to go outside,he first hits the bell with his nose

I was asking him if he wanted to go outside, to ring the bell.

Getting Around

Scott thinks he may have broken his foot. Maybe because there is no muscle there he is just walking on bones? He has a knot on the side of his foot. He will make an appt. on Monday. I wrapped it up tight last night. He said it doesn't feel like it feels any better wrapped. I'll try a thick ace bandage and see if that makes a difference. For know I think it's best he stays off of it as much as he can.

Finally Got A Reply

I received a reply from my e-mail to Dr. Nick. Looks like Scott and I are still on a wing and a prayer. Here is my email and his reply

Hi Dr. Nick Scott said that you were talking about him going on chemo holiday. It is a bit scary for me with the passing of Mike Gray. I know all cases are different but, I thought Scott had to be on chemo for one year? If he could tolerate the chemo is it better if he take the chemo for a year or do you feel comfortable with the amount of chemo that he has had? Thank you so much Dalana

Hi Dalana, I think Scott is really getting run down by this chemo. Thankfully, he has responded well to it from a tumor control standpoint. Yes, I would rather target 9-12 months of therapy but there is this gray line that gets crossed when it becomes counterproductive to his physical and immune health. He needs a rest and we will need to fly by faith for a while ... Scott may need to go back on the chemo more quickly than expected, but this is the better way to go right now I believe. Does this answer the question? Best, N

I am not sure it answered my question. I think it made me more nervous than anything.

Airing Dirty Laundry

I have experienced two episodes very recently. It makes me so angry when people fight in front of their kids.Is it that hard to shelf the disagreement and deal with it maybe when the kids go to bed or are out of ear shot? Come on people. Are you that selfish and immature? Some parents allow kids to blend into the background if their wants and needs. Stop and think of what wonderful memories you are creating for your children. Maybe some books or commonsense will help. This is from Dr. Phil's book Family First.

Factor 1: Create a Nurturing and Accepting Family System.

The number one need in all people is the need for acceptance, the need to experience a sense of belonging to something and someone. The need for acceptance is more powerful in your family than anywhere else. The following to-do list can help you bring the spirit of acceptance into affirmative, interactive action in your family:

  • Put your family on Project Status.
This means you must consciously decide to actively and purposely work on improving your family situation every day. You may need to do such things as:

    - Reschedule business activities to make time for your kids.
    - Help your children set and achieve goals.
    - Set aside an hour a day for the family, every day.

  • Bring out the authenticity of every family member.
Each child in your family came into this world with a core set of unique skills, abilities, interests and talents — all of which make up their genuine identity, their "authentic self." Authentic children have a sense of hope, a feeling that today is as fun and exciting as yesterday and that tomorrow will be as fun and exciting as today. The following suggestions will help you get started on ways to discover and bring to the surface the authenticity and hidden talents and interests of each of your children.

    - Respect and encourage your child's uniqueness.
    - Catch your children doing something right.
    - Look for the best intentions in your children.

  • Create a sense of security and peace in your home.
Your children look to you and your spouse as a solid and safe base of operations. Yet when they're subjected to a conflict-ridden home, their base is shaken to the core. Here are some actions that will ensure that your family becomes and remains a secure stable base for your children and not a war zone.

    - Take arguments private and keep them private.
    - Stop being a "right-fighter."
    - Eliminate patterns of verbal abuse.
    - Deal forthrightly with destructive behavior.

Cutie Patootie

Skylar has moved into her new home. She had called me and asked me to pick her up. I told her both Pappy and myself was sick. Skylar then asked to talk to Blake - she was trying to convince him to pick her up. The cute part of the story is Skylar didn't think we knew where her new house was so she told us to follow her footprints and we would find her.

I took Milo to visit Skylar on Monday. I showed her he could sit, lay and rollover. She was more excited that he had a leash and she could run with him. He had to follow her because she had hold of the leash. She didn't want us to take Milo. She said she loved his tail , his ears and she just loves him. I told her if I didn't take Milo he would be really sad when it came time to go to bed because he sleeps on his bed by my bed. She said he could sleep in her bed. I then told her when I leave for work Milo cries for me because he misses me. Skylar's answer to that was well she misses him. Scott says she will be a great debater. When it got time for us to go she wanted to come home with us. I told her I had to work the next day and she had to go to Juannie's she said we could build another Skylar and she could go to Juannie's and she could come home with us. She even jumped in the truck. I told her I would pick her up on Friday and she could spend the night and play on Saturday.

I have taught Milo to ring the poochie bell when he wants to go outside to potty. Yesterday Scott called me at work to tell me Milo was driving him crazy he rings the bell every ten min. Because we are training him we have to take him out every time he rings it. I asked Scott if Milo was going to the bathroom when he let him out and he said yes and then he runs back to the kitchen for his treat. I am just glad that he caught on to ring the bell. Michelle (my friend and dog pro) says it gets better he will ring the bell less and less. But, will still continue to ring the bell when he needs to go potty. I think that Milo is as excited about ringing the bell as I am.

It's Offical

Scott got word today that he is officially on chemo holiday. He will have a MRI next Friday and meet with Dr. Nick. Lately the scans have been stable so Dr. Nick feels comfortable with Scott going off chemo. Scott is really excited, I feel a little apprehensive. It is very exciting but also very scary. I look forward to Scott not being chemo sick and him getting his strength back. A big thank you to all our family and friends for your prayers. This doesn't mean you can take us off your prayer list.

Be The Best You Can Be

Lately I've been beating myself up a bit. Sometimes I feel guilty because there is more I want to do for others but, I can't find the time. I feel guilty when I am asked to do something, only to have to put it off for a week or two. I want to help out my mom (who lives in Apopka) but due to my schedule and Scott's chemo schedule it makes it where I am unable to help out right now.

Cooties

Scott and I have both been under the weather. I've been a little cranky w/going to work & keeping up on my house duties. I took Scott to chemo on Friday and decided not to go upstairs because I didn't want to contaminate others. Scott slept all the way home and as soon as he walked through the door went to bed.
Michelle and I drove back to Orlando to see John Edwards (the medium). I was hoping for a reading but, the reading he did for others was so moving. They really needed it for peace. But, I totally got it. If you loose someone you love it doesn't mean they are gone forever. They are still around you because love is eternal. I thought that was so sweet. I wish my mom could have been there to here those words. We got home about 11:30 pm and I fed the squirrel took out Milo and got to bed around 12:30.
I have been feeling a bit overwhelmed with everything lately so I took Michelle's advice and made it a lifetime day (thanks Michelle, does she know me or what) I have done nothing today except order out for food and take Milo out. At first, I was aggravated that Milo was dumped on us. But, I have fallen in love with this little dog. He's very cute and sweet.

Work It

Scott had purchased an arm bike but, was unable to use it because of the atrophy. Last night I got out the arm bike and held his left hand on the peddle with my left hand and held his elbow with my right hand. He used the strength in his right hand to peddle. I then stretched his arm and placed my tens unit to try and help stimulate the muscle. I asked Scott how his arm was this morning and he said his shoulder is sore. Scott is dropping half of a dex. today so he will be down to one full pill. With our new workout and less steroids maybe we will stimulate the muscle.
Puppy training is going really well. He only had one accident in the house yesterday. He went to the door last night and put his paw up and looked back at me. I took him out and he went to the bathroom and then ran back in and sat where his treats were. I have been given him sweet potato wrapped with duck. He also loves the apples wrapped in duck. We took him to the vet yesterday and were thrilled to hear Milo is not like most Jack Russells he is calmer and he will not change. He said he was a beautiful Jack Russell and we should use him as a stud. I have taught him to sit, lay and rollover. He is very smart. Thank God.

A Weekend Late..

Friday we decided to keep Skylar and her puppy Milo so Brandi and Tom could move into there new house. Milo and Skylar were in bed with us. Skylar was up most the night. I felt like I had a new born. Scott came back from Dunkin Donuts with Iced Latte. I took a drink and it was loaded with Splenda. I really needed that coffee so I took it back, waited in line and asked for no Splenda. They apologized and made me another. I got out of line and took a drink and it was loaded with sugar. I got back in line, waited through five cars and told the girl, I would like a Iced Latte, no splenda, no sugar, just a iced latte. She said when you didn't want splenda, I thought you wanted sugar..Please all I want is a plain iced latte. Third time was a charm.
We celebrated Easter on Saturday. Scott was feeling better because it was his chemo off week. On request from Kylee, my 5 year old neice we did our 2nd annual flashlight easter egg hunt. My 8 year old niece Kailyn was saying how easy it was going to be. I told her we would see how easy it was when it got dark. We started off with dinner, then we let the kids color eggs. I had boiled a dozen for each kid. The kids eggs were so colorful. Skylar's they were all pink. She even took some of Kailyn and Kylee's eggs that they had already colored a different color but, because they didn't leave it in the dye very long Skylar was able to re-dye it...yes..pink. When it got dark the kids grabbed their flashlights and pails. Kailyn found $8.50 worth of gold eggs. The kids had fun sitting in the living room opening their eggs to see what was in them.
Brandi and Tom decided not to keep Milo Skylar's puppy. Because Skylar was attached Scott and I felt obligated to keep him. Neither of us would have chosen a puppy with everything going on I am way to busy and have way to much to take care of. Michelle had given me a crate so he can be crate trained while we are not home. I also ordered a bell to train him to ring the bell when he needs to go outside. It's very frustrating. The kids should have their head examined for not researching the puppy and it's very selfish of them to stick Scott and I with it with all we are going through. We told the kids they better not buy Skylar another animal because it's not fair. We also have a week old squirrel that needs to be bottle fed. We love taking care of baby squirrels - that's fun..Not as long as a commitment as a dog. I decided to bring the squirrel to work so Scott doesn't have to worry with him and Milo.

Tears & Cheers

Scott had me watch his thumb as he ever so slightly moved it up and down. As I smiled and look at him his eyes had watered up and about to drop a tear. Scott then showed me how he could ever so slightly open and close his fingers.
Even though the movement is slight, it is an obstacle that Scott has overcome. When I watch Scott work so hard to regain the function in his hands, it makes me realize another thing we take for granted.
Keep up the good work, baby.

Adventures in Babysitting

I phoned Skylar last night and Blake answered the phone. I asked him what Skylar was doing and he said she was in time out. When I asked him why, he said because she keeps telling me what she is going to do. Blake told her if she didn't knock it off he was going to put her in time out. Skylar's response was whatever, so Blake put her in time out. I told him to have Skylar call me when she was out.
A few minutes later the phone rang. Skylar wanted me to pick her up because Uncle Blake was giving her attitude and a head ache. She said, he wouldn't let her pick what she wanted to eat. Blake was giving her choices but all she wanted was cereal. Blake's girlfriend said you don't eat cereal for dinner. I asked Skylar if I could speak to Blake. I told him we always eat cereal for dinner. He said, that is what I told Amanda. What did Syklar end up having for dinner ? CEREAL.
Where is it written cereal is only for break fest? I like cereal anytime of the day and we eat it anytime of the day. When the kids were little at least twice a year I would let them have dessert before dinner, that is the best part of dinner.
Hopefully, Skylar was a source of good birth control for the two kids.

Liquid Sunshine

Chocolate easter bunnies are wrapped with colorful ribbon, the plastic carrots are filled with starburst jelly beans (my favorite) 241 plasic eggs filled and ready for hiding, 5 dozen eggs ready to be dyed & easter dinner ready to be prepared.
Last year my niece Kylee was over for Easter so I decided to do a flashlight easter egg hunt. It was a huge hit and Kylee has counted down for a year for this years easter egg hunt. Thanks to the Florida weather, we decided to celebrate next weekend. It is suppose to start raining todat at 1:00 and continue through sunrise service ( another one of my favorites)
Scott is really sick from chemo Friday, he was vomitting last night. We took a vote and decided it would be better to have oue easter celebration next weekend.
I figure I am a week ahead now.

Two Steps Forward

four steps back. I woke up this morning a decided to plant some flowers for spring. After I planted and watered my flowers I decided to fix one of the sprinkler heads. I thought I should just move the line out a bit. There were so many palm tree roots that I decided to chop them with the small hand axe. I didn't know under that sprinkler line was another sprinkler line so needless to say I split the pipe. The water started running so I asked Scott where the shut off valve was. The neighbor, Scott and I started looking and digging. We found one shut off valve but, that was the wrong one. We found another shut off valve and that one came off in Ricky's hand. The water was still running, I managed to cut the pipe through the running water. I headed to Lowe's soaked and thought I could find quick fix. Only after another 45 min. it still wasn't working. My neighbors yard was beginning to flood from all the water. I headed back to Lowes more wet than the time before and very frustrated for different supplies. I got back home and another hour and still didn't fix the problem. I did manage to fix the water pipe so the water wouldn't flood my neighbors yard and I left a message for the sprinkler man. My short yard day turned into a nightmare and I am completely sunburned, a horriable headache, water flowing in my yard. UGH.....Scott's been in bed all weekend from chemo : ( No matter how much I tried to get done today - I got nowhere.

Playdate

Scott, Skylar and I had a play date for Saturday. We were going to see the Easter Bunny, do some shopping, see Horton Hears A Who and go for ice cream. Scott had chemo on Friday, so when Skylar called I asked her if we could do everything Sunday because Pappy wasn't feeling well. She said pappy can go another time. So I jumped up, got dressed and headed to pick her up.

When we arrived at the mall and she saw the Easter Bunny she informed me that she didn't think it was a good idea to have her picture made. Fortunately there were no children there and the bunny tried to get her to take a picture by pretending that he had dropped his egg and needed Skylar to pick it up. She picked up the egg and without moving a step reached as far as she could to give the bunny back his egg. Then the bunny pretended he was crying because Skylar wouldn't take a picture with him. Skylar was a little smarter than the rabbit, she didn't see any tears and his face wasn't wet. We then convinced her not to sit on his lap just to stand beside him. With inching , inch by inch and trying to not get to close we got this great shot. When I was waiting on her pictures she ran up and hugged the bunny. Of course I didn't have my camera ready and he tried to get her to hug him again. She turned and looked at him and said I already hugged you. I asked her to hug him once more so I could take a picture. She was reluctant but she did.

We then headed to The Children's Place to shop for my niece Briar's birthday. Skylar found the cutest little dress and head band. The dress was so cute that we went to see if they had the same dress in 18 months and they did. I told Skylar the dress was so pretty that I think we should have her picture made and she agreed. We went to The Picture Place and I remembered from the past years that they had a real bunny. I asked if they had their bunny and they said yes. They pulled the white background and went to get the bunny. Skylar's face lit up. Between smiles she kept asking if she could take him home. Maybe the Easter Bunny will bring her one.

We then went to see Horton Hears A Who, only Skylar didn't want to see that movie, she wanted to see a scary movie, so she only lasted about 20 min. Then we headed to Ben and Jerry's she loved the giant bean bags. When she ordered her chocolate ice cream in a chocolate dipped with sprinkle ice cream cone topped off with more sprinkles her eyes were bigger than her stomach. We headed back to the mall to pick up her pictures. After we left there we thought we would call pappy and tell him we were driving by Dell's to see if he wanted a Strawberry shake. When we got there Skylar said she loves vanilla shakes so she got a vanilla shake and pappy got a strawberry. In the way home I called Brandi and Tom to ask them to pick up Skylar. I was exhausted. Skylar climbed up in bed and kissed Scott on the forehead so he could wake up to show him her pictures. She only got to spend a short time with him and then her mommy and daddy picked her up. I couldn't decide which of the pictures I liked more - so I got them all. She's so cute.

Confused

about Blake's room. Should I start packing up Blake's room now rather than when he is not there? Should I leave it the same or redecorate? It is now the colors desert sand and army green. I think it would make me sad to pass by and look at it everyday. I am trying to decide what is better for he and I . I know it will be tough to pack if I wait until he leaves but, if I do it before will he feel unwanted? He will not be able to take his things right away so I was going to pack it all away in boxes and place the boxes in his closet.

A Bridal Shower, A Wedding And A Hang Over

I hosted a bridal shower for Michelle Friday night. Thanks so much to my mom who was a huge help. Our theme was Victoria's Secret and I ordered food from Island Pasta.
Saturday was crazy, picking up flowers, hair at 11:30, pizza and then getting ready for the ceremony. Skylar was the cutest flower girl ever. She could not wait to put on her dress and head to the ball. I was a little worried what she would do because she was a little terror all day but, when it came for her to walk she was an absolute angel. The only problem we had is that she wanted to cling to Michelle (the bride) because they matched, they were twins. The bride was beautiful and you couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day. Everything was perfect. I made friends with wonderful people. I drank a little well, alot of wine which left me with a horrible hang over on Sunday. I was exhausted from the shower and the wedding that I spent the day in my PJ's.
I received two very special gift's this weekend. Scott presented me with a beautiful journey necklace, for all we've done, all we do and for our future. It was a very emotional moment. Since Mike passed so rapidly, it terrifies me. It makes you realize how deadly this disease is and how many times can you fight it.
I also received a journey necklace from Michelle for our journey together as friends. The necklace she gave me is heart shaped, also very beautiful. Neither of them knew the other had gotten me a journey necklace. Just goes to show how much alike they are.
I will post salon and shower pictures soon.

Heaven Gained An Angel

Mike, the friend, I blogged about on February 15 has lost his fight. Mike passed away this morning. It is very devastating for Scott and I to loose such a good friend. His health declined so rapidly. I received a heart wrenching e-mail from ML his wife, she willed Scott and I all Mike's determination to fight and all Mike's prayers directed to us. Even in Mike's final day, she was thinking of us. Our visit to the hospital meant the world. I only hope if ever the time were to come, I would be as strong. Our prayers are with his family.

Take Two Asprin And Call Me In The Morning

Scott and I went to my mom's Thursday after work. My mom, my sister and I laid carpet. I woke up Friday morning I forgot my clothes and had a horrible headache. It turned out to be a migraine. On the way to chemo Scott had to pull over because I was so sick. I slept in the truck in my P.J.'s while Scott had chemo. Scott's nurse came down to the car to check on me, I was sleeping so she let me sleep :) At first I thought Scott sent her down but, he said no she did it on her own - which was very sweet. I thought Scott had called off his chemo but it seems that I had just slept for 4 hours. When Scott got back in the truck he had 2 scripts that Dr. Nick had written for me. Thanks to Scott who was determined to get us home, we made it in record time. We both went to bed and it's were we've both have stayed.

In The Blink Of an Eye

Blake has flown through his high school diploma classes. His teacher said she has never seen anyone finish the classes so fast. Blake was tested and tested out college level entry. He is expected to finish the middle of May. He will then send for his orders. It is expected to take about 30 days to receive them and he will go to Red Stone Arsenal Alabama for 9 months for his EOD training. I already am getting empty nest syndrome. :(

Friends Along The Way

It was great for Scott to hear from a long time friend. Fortunately, Scott and I have had the privilage of friends we've lost contact with over the years finding us or us finding them. Scott and I love it when someone from our past looks us up. It's nice to know the people's life you touch along the way.

We also received an e-mail from MaryLynn, the wife of our friends we met through chemo.
Mike is still confused, MaryLynn still has to tell him there has been a new tumor. They are both on an emotional roller coaster. My heart goes out to the two of them.

Teamwork

My mom phoned me on Tuesday to ask me if I could help her lay floor in her rental property. I could here the distress in her voice. I decided to go up Thursday after work to see how much we could get done. My mom, my sister and myself worked into the night we had gotten the living room laid and called it a night. I took Scott to chemo the next morning and headed back to try to finish the kitchen and hallway.

Scott gets discombobulated after chemo so I really wanted to finish and get him back home to his own bed. I told him to call my cell phone when they started the Avastin. When he called we had probably 6 pieces to lay so I decided to finish to pick him up. I was a little late but it worked out perfect. We had taken up MRI's and needed to speak with Dr. Nick. Dr. Nick was very pleased with MRI's and the area is stable. Yay!! Scott has now been moved from 6 weeks to 8 week reviews. This is great news!

I did get Scott home and neither of us felt our head hit the pillow. It's nice to be in our own bed, where we can both rest.

My mom is feeling overwhelmed over all the work that needs to be done. So I offered to go up again Thursday afterwork and help her either lay carpet or baseboard, so she can get it rented. My mother, my sister and I make a great team. You forget how well you work together. After it was done my sister mentioned how much fun it was. It was weird because I felt the same way.

Skylar called me and told me she was packing to come and see me. So looks like I am going to have a full day tomorrow also. I am hoping she will occupy herself so I can get a few things done. I always hope but, it never works out that way. ; ) I have a wedding and a shower coming up in two weeks and am feeling a bit stressed.

Who Do You Call

Gammy and Pappy. I phoned Skylar last night and she was so distraught. She had ants and they had got into her cupcake. Skylar asked me what she was going to do, how she was killing to kill them. I told her she needed bug spray. Confused she said "bug spray" how am I going to use bug spray. Then she asked me if I had bug spray. I told her yes in the garage. She asked me to bring it over and she would give it back tomorrow. I told her they were in her cupcake because they like sugar. When she found out they like sugar as much as she does she really wanted to kill them. Our 20 min. phone conversation was over the ants and bug spray. Girls are so dramatic.

20/20

Scott's vision tested out 20/20. His eyes are perfect. Turns out the eye doctor uses Avastin to treat vascular bleeding, it is injected right into the eye. Scott can proceed with chemo on Friday. We will hand carry the MRI with us that Scott will have on Wednesday for a review with Dr. Nick.

Princess Valium

I am so stressed over Scott's eye appt. Thank you Dr. Cwikla for calling in a favor. Scott's appt. is this morning (as soon as he can get there ) I love doctors knowing doctors. We always see patients that are in pain. Not that Scott is in pain but, it makes me realize, what goes around, comes around.

A Penny For Your Thoughts

Scott and I worked on the back porch and in the yard on Saturday. At the end of the day I had mentioned Mike and Marianne and how I thught about them all day. Scott said he thought about Mike when he was grilling. It is so easy to put yourself where they are now. Scott had chemo with Mike, who has his own law firm, Jeffrey, who is a pediatric surgeon but when it all comes down to it we are all equal fighting the same disease. When we were visiting Mike and I asked them if we could get them anything, something to eat, something to drink etc..She said no, they had friends that has visited and brought them things but, didn't really understand what they were going through. At chemo we share our stories. What we found to be easy to eat after chemo, physical therapy for atrophy etc..
Scott has made me the person I am. He has made me appreciate life and not take anything for granted. I admire him for his strength, for his words of encouragement to others and for his strength to fight. We don't know why things happen to good people or why we are put in their lives. I wouldn't trade my life for anything. The friends we've made along the way, I treasure their frienships. I treasure the love I have found in Scott.

Bump In The Road

Dr. Nick choose not to give Scott his chemo today. Dr. Nick wants Scott to see an eye doctor. cott's left eye is blood shot. We are to be back in Dr. Nicks office with the report from the eye doctor and his MRI. Scott wowed all the girls with Girmaldies chocolated covered potato chips. Scott has chemo on Friday's with the same people. Over the year we have become friends with the patients and their wives. We found out today that our friend Mike was in tower 10 in the hospital. It was a hard desicion to make. Because both he and Scott are fighting the same disease. You imediatley think of yourself. 1. Is it something you are emotionally ready to handle? 2. Is it a personal time for him and his family? 3. What if it were Scott and I ? Mike and Marianne had become friends of ours so we wanted to be there for them. Mike had a new tumor show up in the thalamus. He has a polomary aneurysm. The prognosis is not good. Mike needed a words of encouragement and Marinne needed hugs. Scott and I live our lives on a wing and a prayer and our prayers go out to Mike, Marianne and their family.

Love Is In The Air

everyday. Scott and I have never celebrated Valentines Day.It was fun when we were kids and had Valentine parties at school. In keeping up with tradition I mailed Valentines from Skylar to the cousins, grandmas etc..Curious where Valentine came from I found this:

St. Valentine's Day

As Christianity became prevalent, priests attempted to replace old heathen practices. To Christianize the ancient pagan celebration of the Feast of Lubercus, the church officials changed the name to St. Valentine's Day. To give the celebration further meaning and eliminate pagan traditions, priests substituted the drawing of Saints names for the names of the girls. On St. Valentine's Day the priest placed saint's names into an urn or box. The young people then drew a name from the container. In the following year, the youth was supposed to emulate the life of the saint whose name he had drawn.

By the fourteenth century they reverted back to the use of girl's names. In the sixteenth century they once again tried to have saintly valentines but it was as unsuccessful as the first attempt.

While it can't be proved historically, there were seven men named Valentine who were honored with feasts on February 14th. Of these men, two stories link incidents that could have given our present day meaning to St. Valentine's Day.

One of these men named Valentine was a priest during the reign of Emperor Claudius. Valentine was revered by the young and old, rich and poor, with people of all walks of life attending his services. At this time Emperor Claudius was heavily recruiting men to serve as soldiers for his wars without much success. The men preferred not to leave their wives, families and sweethearts to fight in foreign lands. Claudius became angry and declared that no more marriages could be performed and all engagements were cancelled.

Valentine thought this to be unfair and secretly married several couples. When Claudius found out, he threw Valentine in prison where he died. Friends of the priest retrieved his body and buried it in a churchyard in Rome.

Another version had St. Valentine jailed for helping Christians. While Valentine was in prison he cured a jailer's daughter of blindness. Claudius became enraged and had Valentine clubbed and beheaded on February 14, 269 A.D.

Yet another story claims that Valentine fell in love with the jailer's daughter and wrote her letters that were signed "From your Valentine."

All of the seven Valentines eventually evolved into one. In 496 Pope Gelasius declared the day in honor of St. Valentine. Through the centuries the Christian holiday became a time to exchange love messages and St. Valentine became the patron saint of lovers. Lovers' quarrels come under his jurisdiction and, naturally, he is the patron saint of engaged couples and of anyone wishing to marry.

The Innocence Of A Child

Skylar's big thing lately is "Where do you come from"? When we tell her - she wants to know where's your mom, where's your dad etc...She knows that my dad has passed away. She remembers being at our home when Scott's mom passed away. She asks where we come from , we go through the whole routine only when we get to Scott's mom - she says how she went to heaven and woke up Pappy's mom, so pappy wouldn't be sad. It makes me realize how innocent children are.

Fun Weekend

Skylar was invited to a Belle and Halle's birthday party at Liberty Park in Palm Bay.  Skylar had a wonderful time. Scott was able to visit with people he had not  seen in a long time. I just passed
by hi and bye as I tried to keep up with Skylar.
The park had an area where you could roller skate and was a big hit with both adults and kids. I don't think Skylar has ever been on roller skates. Miss Keri helped her out. I told Skylar to thank Miss Keri for inviting her to Belle and Halle's party but she thanked her for helping her skate. We listened to the party CD that Skylar had gotten in her party bag. Scott told Skylar he
had some really good music but, she thought her CD was really good. Sorry Pappy - you lose.
We exhausted and all in bed by 7:00 pm. As soon as the sun came up Skylar's eyes were open "sun's up time to get up" Gary and Linda (Keri's parents) introduced the bubble wand at the party. Skylar loved it. We headed out to buy 3 of them Sunday morning. One for her at our house, one for her at dad's house and one for Scott and I (just kidding) one for emergency purposes.  We sat in the yard blowing bubbles and I drew at hop scotch on the side walk for Skylar. Pappy and I were so excited to see Tom we were exhausted. It seem so much easier with kids when we were younger.

Tom + The Bud Shoot Out =

Scott and I with Skylar for the weekend. Yay..I am taking her to a birthday party on Saturday. She will be able to try on her flower girl dress for Michelle's wedding - it finally came in. Maybe she will let me get some photos of her and her dress and some for valentines day. I am going shopping today so I'll have drumsticks and popcorn in the house (she always looks for those)
I do have a few things to do for Michelle's bridal shower.

Scott Needs His Land Legs Back

It was a good decision to stay home and not head to Ant's super bowl party. We know we are going to miss a great time. We haven't seen those guys since the last super bowl party. Scott has felt like he has been on a boat the last couple of days. I guess I can understand why he hates boats. I would too if I felt like I was always riding waves. I feel so bad for him.

Looks Like We Are Staying Home

for Super Bowl Sunday. We were planning on attending Anthony and Tina's super bowl party in Stuart. Scott didn't feel well after his last chemo so he is not sure how he will feel his second week. It's hard to socialize when you are not feeling well. We will try and catch up with them at a later time. It's probably easier on him to stay home.

98 %Done

Scott felt pretty good on Saturday ( the day after chemo ) he and I painted our bedroom. They were suppose to deliver our bedroom set on Saturday but because they were running behind, they rescheduled for Sunday. Because we upgraded from a queen to a king I had to buy sheets. So after they delivered and set it up I went shopping for sheets. Scott was feeling like he was on a boat so he stayed behind. Our bedroom now feels like we are in a luxurious hotel room somewhere in the tropics. I only have a couple more small things to do including call the cable man to rerun the cable to the inside wall.

Staying Neutral

Although Michelle and I will be attending different Super Bowl parties we thought it would be fun remaining neutral and not cheer for the Giants or the Patriots. So her and I will be sporting referee shirts to our parties. Matt her fiance` may be a tidbit upset - since he is a huge Patriot fan.

Quilt of Many Colors

When Skylar was born I saved her baby clothes from 0-12. I made to queen size quilt tops. I finished one quilt and hope to finish the other quilt when my boss leaves for a week in April. When Skylar comes over and we nap, she always ask me about the quilt. The colors are filled with mostly pink. I tell her I remember when... she seems to love it and it always makes me smile.
I have decided that I will make one for each of my grandchildren (as they come) and it will be a special gift from me to them.

T.V. Makes It look So Easy

HGTV finishes whole rooms in a weekend. My weekend projects seem to take longer than a weekend. Scott and I took up carpet on Saturday to begin laying wood laminate floor. I purchased the pergo snap and lock. It was really easy only a pain to cut around the door jam. Scott helped where he could, he was like a human table saw. I am not done but hope to be done by the end of this week. I would like to repaint while the furniture is out of the room. We have been sleeping our guest room and Scott's beginning to fill discombobulated. So I hope to finish before chemo on Friday.
Another upset this weekend was Scott's Packers lost to the Giants. We began watching the game last night and both of us fell asleep. When I woke up the T.V. was still playing and I heard the Giants were headed to the Super Bowl. I looked over and Scott was sound asleep. I decided to let him sleep and broke the news to him @ 4:00 this morning. He was so sure the Packers and Patriots would face off in the Super Bowl. Sorry Scott : ( Good luck Matt - who is a huge Patriot fan. As always I will have to cheer for the opposite team. I will be cheering on the Giants at this years Super Bowl party even though the Patriot's is favored to win.

Date Night

I received a phone call from a young, good looking man that ask me to dinner. Yeah!! I have a date. So what if it is my son. It still melts my heart when he ask me to dinner and tells me he loves me in front of his friends.

First Project Of The New Year

Scott had chemo on Friday. Dr. Nick gave us a good MRI report. Scott felt pretty good but, seemed to complain about feeling like he was on a boat. So he was a bit green.
I decided to check off my first project of my news years resolution . I removed everything from our closet, laid wood floor, cut and nailed new base board & painted. I put together a large cabinet with doors & drawers. I placed a new closet rod and cut down my shoe organizer and fit it beside the cabinet. Now we can walk in our closet with out falling in.

2008

Our New Year started out with the passing of Scott's mother.

Happy New Year

I never make new years resolutions because I never stick to them. This year I made one and will stick to it. I plan to declutter and I actually started before the new year began. I also intended to finish little projects around the house - that means I will use Scott's power tools : )
Scott and I will spend our New Year Day with Skylar...Great way to begin the new year.

Productive Few Days

I spent all day Saturday doing yard work. I trimmed our much needed pineapple palm to look again like a pineapple. I weeded, mowed, edge and trimmed. I don't know what it is but, always the day after yard work I wake up with a really bad headache. Sunday I cleaned out my closet and my drawers. If I haven't worn it in months - I bagged it up for the homeless. Today Michelle and I spent the day working on her wedding invitations.
Scott and I haven't seen Skylar since Christmas Eve. She phoned today and asked us to pick her up tomorrow and when I said "yes" she said she was happy. I can't think of a better way to spend New Years Day.

Some Peoples Kids II

Last evening we received a call from a friend of Scott's family. We were tired and choose not to answer the phone. A message was left on the answering machine saying that she had a feeling Scott's mother had died and wanted him to call her back. Who would call and leave that on someone's answering machine? We don't even know if she knows Scott's mom is ill.

Wednesday, December 26, 2007

Some Peoples Kids

Scott's mother is gravely ill. Given his condition he is unable to travel all the way to Wisconsin. He phones daily to check on his mother via the nurse's station. When Scott phoned Christmas Day to check on his mother, the nurse stated that there was company in her room , so she rang Scott through. Mike, a friend of Scott's brother was in the room. I had sent Scott mother a Christmas card that had our family's picture on it. He made the comment to Scott, that he didn't look to bad, given the condition he had heard Scott was in - he thought he would be in as bad of shape as Scott's mother. I can not believe someone would say something so stupid -

Hard To Let Go

I was heart broken when Blake decided to join the Army. Eventually I came to terms. I try to look at it in a different ways, like he has the opportunity to travel the world. As I was preparing myself for Blake's leave date which is June 12th- Blake has decided to finish his High School in an accelerated program. Instead of sitting in class for another 5 months and graduating with the Class he has been with since grade school, he has decided to drop Satellite High and graduate through High School with Brevard County. After many tears and many questions , this is my conclusion. After boot camp it was very hard for Blake to return to High School, he felt like he was taking a step back instead of forward. I stressed that it was important for me to see him walk - he said I saw him walk (meaning boot camp graduation) and that meant more to him than high school graduation.
Blake will renegotiate his contract and his departure date will be before June 12th.
I realized my dream for my children's life, my not always be their dream and that I may never be ready for Blake to began his adult life.

Christmas Holiday

I dropped Scott off at Chemo on Friday and headed to Apopka to pick up my mom. Gail had given Scott extra anti-anxiety, so he slept all the way home and the rest of the night. Skylar visited Saturday so Tom could visit Santa to make sure he completed Skylar's list. Skylar wanted to bake cookies we made two batches and she was ready to move on to something else. Christmas Eve we had our friends Matt, Michelle, Turner & Boston (their two dogs) Skylar, Tom, Blake , my mother, Scott and I. I had purchased a flurry machine and made it snow for Christmas. Skylar thought it was great - it snowed in our living room. It lasted about 5 min. then we made it snow again. Skylar then figured out how to turn it on and it really snowed. Christmas Eve was exhausting. Christmas day was quite - it was just my mother, Scott and I. It was a great - lazy Christmas.
